Oncology massage is an approach to massage therapy based in both compassion and specialised massage treatments to help people manage their experience with cancer. Treatments are modified according to the full spectrum of cancer-related issues: the physical, psycho-social and emotional consequences of cancer. In addition, the person's individual goals are considered and aspects of the disease and cancer treatment side effects. Personal goals for receiving oncology massage can include the desire for a respite,  a relaxing pleasurable experience in the midst of everything that is going on. It can also help to relieve nausea or other symptoms such as pain or peripheral neuropathy.

How massage therapy can help if I have cancer?

Massage can:

 relax your mind and body

 improve your mood

relieve tension and pain in muscles or tissue

reducing pain

help alleviating stress

help relieve nausea

help reduce depression and anxiety

Improve sleep and lessen fatigue

help preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy

Relieving lymphedema.

Some studies of people with cancer suggest that massage therapy may also help reduce anxiety, depression and fatigue.

Is it safe to have a massage if I have cancer?

Some people worry that massage could cause cancer cells to spread to other parts of the body. Research has not found any evidence of this happening. I  will avoid any areas affected by cancer, such as tumour sites or lymph nodes or areas where there are catheters, central lines or pain relief patches.

The initial treatment will include an online consultation via  zoom/facetime.  If you would like more information or to book and initial consultation please email me at thepagepractice@gmail.com

I am a certified Oncology massage therapist and completed my training with the UK's leading Oncology massage therapists Susan Finday

"It was so great to experience the way Sally worked on my back, going deep and intuitively loosening any knots and leaving me completely relaxed and almost pain free. I have a long standing issue with my neck and the pains shooting down my arms and the massage has definitely helped me to sleep better. Sally is also very warm but lets you enjoy your massage without much chatting and plays lovely soothing music. I will be back!"
